About Me

  • I am an award-winning teacher and teaching scholar with over 20 years of experience designing and leading innovative programs that empower learners. My expertise bridges higher education and corporate learning and development (L&D), where I create courses, workshops, and large-scale initiatives that integrate career literacies—digital, collaborative, creative, and communicative—with critical thinking and applied problem-solving rooted in humanist values. In my roles at Indiana University, I have:

    • Taught in-person, hybrid, and online courses in the undergraduate and MBA / graduate programs in both the Kelley School of Business and the College of Arts & Sciences.

    • Led faculty and instructor professional development programs focused on digitally-informed active learning methods, curriculum design, and pedagogical / andragogical best practices.

    • Directed IU Bloomington’s campus-wide undergraduate writing program (2019–2024) and IU’s system-wide Mosaic Faculty Institute for Active Learning (2023–2024). Currently, Associate Director of the Communication, Professional, and Computer Skills Department at the IUB Kelley School of Business.

  • As a teacher, my cross-disciplinary portfolio includes courses in Business Communications, Professional Skills, Liberal Arts & Management, Literature, Rhetoric, and Writing. Across the board, my teaching and facilitation emphasize metacognitive, self-directed learning that fuses career literacies with critical thinking, empowering learners to adapt and thrive in today’s rapidly evolving landscape. At the core of my praxis is a passion for building carefully scaffolded experiences that make the learning visible and transferrable. My goal – always – is to cultivate strategic communicators and digital citizens who have the confidence,  rhetorical agility, and multimodal know-how to craft and share their voices.

  • My administrative experience outside the classroom has encompassed a wide range of enterprise-level leadership tasks, including hiring, staffing, and training, guiding promotion and review processes, budgeting and resource allocation, compliance oversight, course and instructor scheduling, and cross-departmental collaboration.

Through this work, I have collaborated with key stakeholders all across IU, including the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL), the Center of Excellence for Women in Technology (CEWIT), the Office of the Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education, the College Office of Enrollment Management, Undergraduate Academic Advising & Support, the Office of Student Life, the Conrad Prebys Career Services Center, the Walter Center for Career Achievement, and the Groups Scholars Program, which supports IU’s first-generation students and 21st-Century Scholars.

  • From the “lab” of my classroom and workshops, I publish my insights and findings through:

    • Peer-reviewed articles and chapters that demonstrate my commitment to innovation and pedagogical leadership in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).

    • Open educational resources (OERs) designed to equip educators with tools to foster high-quality, engaged learning.

  • I regularly consult with departments and programs at Indiana University and beyond on initiatives that enhance teaching effectiveness and learner success. This includes integrating AI into teaching and learning, curriculum mapping and design, and assessment practices.

Recent project include AI programming and workshops developed for IUB’s School of Public Health, IUI’s School of Education, IU’s AI Fellows Program, Queens University’s Writing Studies Department, and Winston-Salem State University’s Center for Innovative and Transformative Instruction.

  • Beyond higher ed, I bring a dynamic approach to consulting, executive coaching, and workshop facilitation, helping individuals and organizations achieve transformative communication outcomes. My expertise spans diverse industries and nonprofits, including offering one-on-one coaching services through Performance Learning Concepts, crafting cutting-edge online training modules for CareerBuilder, designing internship courses for Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), and developing strategic planning tools for the South Central Indiana Human Resources Association (SCIHRA). Additionally, I’ve collaborated on service-learning projects with Indiana-based TechPoint to advance Indiana's thriving tech ecosystem. With a proven track record of delivering tailored solutions, I am passionate about empowering organizations to achieve their strategic communication goals.

  • In addition to my academic and consulting work, I am the co-founder and co-designer of BYTE—Branding Your Teaching Excellence—a faculty development framework that fuses brand science with the scholarship of teaching and learning to empower educators to articulate and advance their unique teaching identities.

BYTE redefines teaching excellence as a strategic, evidence-based narrative that supports both career advancement and instructional impact. Through BYTE, my collaborator and I develop workshops, consultation tools, and multimedia resources—including the forthcoming Quick BYTE Podcast—that guide educators in building intentional, values-driven portfolios aligned with institutional and professional goals. Our work spans higher education, K–12, and corporate L&D spaces, offering accessible strategies for educators to self-advocate and lead with clarity, creativity, and confidence.

Our framework has been featured at workshops sponsored by the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education (POD), Indiana University - Bloomington’s Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, and featured in our article “Teaching Excellence Plus” recently published in  Documenting Teaching Excellence: Promoting the University’s Vital Mission (Empower Teaching Open Access Series, 2005).
